5 simple steps to creative advertising

21st October 2009 •

You are probably wondering how we come up with such imaginative ideas for creative here at Indulge. Let me briefly explain how, with these 5 simple steps to creating the perfect advertising creative:

1. The Message

In the first step we look at what the client wants the creative say and the tone of voice they want to use. Unique selling propositions (USPs) are flagged i.e Triple blade action, along with the Emotional selling propositions (ESPs) i.e "Feel young again".

2. Interesting facts

This is where the real detective work begins. We look for something relevant to the advertising proposition, something that the audience might even be unaware of and preferably something which a competitor does not have, or does so well. The real truth about the product comes out in this stage and generally forms the basis for the core creative idea.

3. The Audience

Who are they? How do you want them to react? We need to find a USP that captures their attention quickly. We might even step into the audiences shoes and consume, behave like they would.

4. Ideas

A series of quick sketches based on the above research and idea brainstorm sessions are presented to the client, along with a storyboard for any motion graphics. This stage is essential for turning over a quick succession of ideas before entering into the Photoshop time vortex. The more ideas the better and don't hold your imagination back!

5. Final artwork

Once the "big idea" is agreed we turn the rough idea concepts into something presentable to the public. Whether this be a postcard or a billboard, we use a fine attention to detail, colour and ensure it delivers upon everything we outlined in our preparation, and more!
